THE SMIRKS - ROSEMARY (1978)


The Smirks were another late 70s band from Manchester,despite being more of the New Wave/Power Pop genre they did support Killing Joke and Joy Division.

This Classic Power pop tune was the bands only single.


WHITE HEAT - NERVOUS BREAKDOWN (1978)


Formed in 76 White Heat soon found themselves to be an integral part of the North East music scene.
First single Nervous Breakdown was picked up by John Peel which brought them to the attention of Richard Branson and Virgin Records. Two more singles and an album followed before they called it a day.

SLOWGUNS - T.V. MOVIE (1979)


The First of two singles by this band from Stockport, it garnered praise from John Peel, and was voted record of the week in Sounds.

NEW HEARTS - JUST ANOTHER TEENAGE ANTHEM (1977)


The first of two singles by this band from Loughton formed in 77. They supported THE JAM on the UK Modern World tour, and accompanied  them to the 1978 Reading Festival, where they were joined on stage by HAWKWIND guitarist Huw Lloyd Langton. Later in 78 they changed their name to SECRET AFFAIR and found fame as one of the leading lights of the Mod Revival movement.   


JOHNNY CURIOUS & THE STRANGERS - PISSHEADVILLE (1978)


Track 2 from the IN TUNE EP, the only Release from this Welwyn Garden City band formed in 76.

B-Side of This West Yorkshire bands 1979 first single "What I Want". Initially released independently before being picked up by DERAM.


BACK TO ZERO - YOUR SIDE OF HEAVEN (1979)



Mod revival group formed in North London early 79. The band appeared on the original "March Of The Mods' tour along with The Purple Hearts and Secret Affair. This was their only single.






JOHNNY AND THE SELF ABUSERS - SAINTS AND SINNERS (1977)


Johnny And The Self Abusers from Glasgow released this one single in 1977 on the CHISWICK label, the band spit up around the time of it's release,dividing into two groups: Alastair Mackenzie, Donald and John Milarky formed THE CUBAN HEELS while Charlie Burchill, Brian McGee and Pripton Weird (better Known as Jim Kerr) formed SIMPLE MINDS.

THE DRIVERS - TEARS ON YOUR ANORAK (1982)


London band who had a hit in Canada with this song in 1982 They later changed the name to "Cutting Crew" and in 1986 had a massive hit with "(I Just) Died In Your Arms". 




SALFORD JETS - GINA (1979)


Salford Jets formed in 1979 and performed untill the early 1980s.
"Gina" is the first track of the 1979 EP.




THE JAGS - I NEVER WAS A BEACH BOY (1980)




The Jags formed in North Yorkshire in 1978 best remembered for their debut single the 1979 Power pop classic "Back Of My Hand" . They disbanded in 82.






RUDI - BIG TIME (1978)



Rudi were a band from Belfast formed in 1975.The band's debut single was "Big Time"the first release on Terri Hooley's GOOD VIBRATIONS label in may 1978. It received positive reviews in the music press and was later described by Henry McDonald of The Observer as "One of the most perfect pop songs to come out of this island" 



ANY TROUBLE - 2ND CHOICE (1980)



Formed in 1975 in Crewe Any Trouble emerged from the early Manchester New Wave scene alongside bands like Buzzcocks and Magazine, they had a much more poppy sound with there clean guitar riffs. "2nd Choice" was there second single on STIFF.
